Last night, leaders and volunteers from across the Archdiocese of Hartford came together at the 48th Annual HOPES Awards dinner, to recognize select individuals who help make our Catholic Schools such exceptional institutions.

We are very excited to announce Saint James School’s 2025-26 volunteers of the year:  Mr. Philip Miller and Mrs. Kristin O’Hara. Both Mr. Miller and Mrs. O’Hara were honored with the St. John Neumann Award for volunteer service last evening along with other dedicated volunteers from across the Archdiocese.

Mr. Miller, who has coached many Saint James School sports teams during his time as an SJS parent, always finds a way to keep it fun while still motivating students to challenge themselves. He prioritizes good sportsmanship and teamwork to ensure that athletes grow both on and off the field. Currently, Mr. Miller is in his second year as head coach of the SJS cross country team—a sizable undertaking.  He has also served as the head coach for various levels of boys basketball over the past several years, and will continue to coach this basketball season.

Mrs. O’Hara has similarly been a long-time, very dedicated volunteer since first enrolling her children many years ago.  Most recently Mrs. O’Hara has served as Vice President of the Home & School Association, and has chaired numerous school events like the Christmas Store and Mother/Daughter Tea.  She has also provided substantial help to numerous school events like the Annual Gala, Trunk-Or-Treat/Fall Festival, and more!

In short, both winners have been extremely generous to our school with their time and talents.  Saint James School is very grateful for their dedication and was so pleased to honor them last night along with Superintendent Mara and Archbishop Coyne.
