Back-to-School Lock-Down Drill
Today SJS held our first lock-down drill of the 2026-2027 school year. As this was the first drill of the new year, our Pre-K and K-8 teachers were given advanced notice (so they could prepare their students in an age-appropriate way). For the next drill, only the Pre-Kindergarten teachers will receive advance notice.
Each year, Saint James School works with our local law enforcement to review our school’s safety procedures. While lock-down drills are – unfortunately – a part of growing up in today’s world, they do afford teachers and students a formal opportunity to practice and discuss how to react should the need arise. We are very pleased to share that during today’s lock-down drill, students and staff reacted quickly so that everyone was in a secure “lock-down” state within seconds.
The safety and well-being of every student entrusted to our care is at the forefront of everything we do here at SJS. We wanted to bring today’s drill to your attention so that you may have a timely conversation with your student(s) about how to react in an emergency situation should you deem appropriate.
In the event of a true lock-down event at Saint James School, notification would be sent to families through our rapid response system.

Box Tops Thank You & Reminder
Thank you to all the SJS families who have been scanning Box Tops for Education in support of our school. We have already earned $184 from the months of July and August alone. Special shout out to Grade 1 and Grade 5 for being the top participating grades at SJS, based on scans since July 1, 2026!
If you have not already done so, please take a moment to download the Box Tops for Education App and select St James School as your designated school.
Once you have the app, just use the “SCAN” button to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit it to our school’s earnings. It’s super easy!
SJS Book Fair: Volunteers Needed
The HSA will be hosting the annual Saint James School Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1. Proceeds from the book fair (up to 50% of your purchase!) go towards funding new books and equipment for the classrooms and the school library.
Volunteers are needed to help set-up/clean-up the book fair and to work at the fair by helping students make selections and serving as cashiers. Please note that in order to volunteer you must have completed the required VIRTUS training and Background Check.
If you are able to help, please click HERE to access our Volunteer Sign Up Genius. Any questions can be directed to our event co-chairs, Amy Mule (amymule@gmail.com) or Alicia Poth (aliciapoth@gmail.com).
Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated as we work to make this year’s book fair another huge success. Thank you!
From the Nurse
Mrs. Walker, our school nurse, will begin vision and hearing screenings next week. In accordance with state guidelines, students in grades K, 1, 3, 4, and 5 will be screened.
Parents will be notified if Mrs. Walker identifies any concerns with your child’s screening results.
